Genome Sequence Collections
To make access to genome sequence data as rapid as possible, GenePalette supports the local storage of sequence data. This is a particularly valuable feature in the case of whole-chromosome sequences, which can be quite slow to download from GenBank. Local storage reduces the time required for such transactions.
For the sake of convenience, we are making available collections of whole-chromosome sequence data for certain organisms. Click the appropriate link below to download the current collection for that organism. Once the downloaded archive has been un-zipped, simply place the unzipped directory into the "GenBank" directory (folder), under the main directory for the program. When a local copy of a genome sequence file is available in the "GenBank" directory, GenePalette will automatically use it in preference to a fresh download from NCBI.
NOTE: When loading new collections of genomes into the program, you need to recatalog your local gene index if you want to search local sequences by gene symbol. Go to the "GenomeTools" menu, select "Recatalog Local Genes", and then click the "Index All" button in the dialog box that comes up.
